So does this mean the 90mm front brake is available now?

Both the XL-FD and XL-FDD are available now. But no distributors in the States have received them yet. The first distributor to receive them will be United Bicycle Supply in Ashland Oregon. So if you are a shop you can contact them direct when they get them in. If you are not a shop you can have your local shop contact them for you.

Apologies if this is just my browser failing, but I can't seem to click through the image to a larger (legible) ad.

Sorry not your browser, for some reason blogger does not like me uploading pics from Safari. Uploaded via Firefox, working now.

Last month I was told they should be in the UK in August. Is that still a good estimate?
Apparently the 90mm stub axle brakes are already available in the UK.

I am not sure about the UK. I would have to follow up with the European office to find out for you. I will get back.

What will the retail price be?

Is the new 8 speed (w) hub available in the US? If yes, then what is the retail price? Thanks.

CL: The new 8 speed is available in the US. You can check with www.biketoolsetc.com or your local bike shop for retail pricing. Just let your local shops know that United Bicycle Supply or QBP are carrying the new 8 speed.

I am a bit confused. Did the XRK8 had the same problems as the XRF8? According to this:

http://sunrace-sturmeyarcher.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

the disc version had the 325% gear range but it is not the XRK8(w). Is there a new revision for the XRK8 with the same gear range, but with more robust components inside? Thanks in advance.

Do the XL-FD(D), use short (aka, caliper / canit) or long (disc / v-brake) levers?

Sunrace Sturmey Archer said...

We recommend cantilever style brake levers for use with our drum hubs.

Due to rims now being worn out by rim brakes, I suggest even tourer/commuter bikes with derailleur gears would suit a rear hub brake, even if the front brake remains a rim-brake(e.g. due to weight/power considerations). This would mean a rear hub brake to suit cassette/all-in-one-freewheel cogs, with a built-in hub dynamo would be even more useful: probably lighter than a separate front hub dynamo (most of casing would already present for rear hub brake) and would allow front wheel to be quickly replaced upon its rim expiring due to brake wear.
