2012 Handmade Bicycle Show

We will be attending the 2012 Handmade Bicycle Show in Sacramento this year. Anyone in the area should check it out. Great show to drool over some amazing bikes. This year Brad Wilson of Capricorn Cycles has crafted us a beautiful bike. It is currently off to the painters and I should be building it up in a few weeks time. Once it is all finished I will put up some complete photos.

I also wanted to take a moment and thank Brad for doing this for us and putting his heart and soul into a beautiful build. I would also like to thank Velo Orange and Chris King for providing parts for the build. We could not have done this without you guys.

NAHBS 2011

This year was the first year we attended The North American Handmade Bicycle Show. It was a blast! Thank you to Don Walker for putting on such a great event. We are very much looking forward to NAHBS 2012 in Sacramento. Only an hour away!

Here are a few photos from the show of a couple of amazing bikes. The first set is from Naked Bikes. Amazing detail, thought and craftsmanship went into this bike. He also used our B2C 2 speed kickback on the rear. He turned down the steel shell to better match the look of the bike.

Next is a very classic looking cruiser from Victoria Cycles. Beautiful bike. The detail was amazing on this one as well.

2010 Taipei International Bike Show

First day is in the books. Seemed very busy and the show keeps getting bigger.

For everyone who may be interested, the S2C 2 speed kick shift hub will be available by the beginning of June. Available in six colors (Silver, Black, Red, Gold, Turquoise, and Purple) and 36 hole to start. More info will be up on the Sturmey website soon.
Also coming on the heels of the S2C will be the S2 2 speed kick shift hub with no brake. This will be available late Summer.

Also new for this year is the CS-RF3 and CS-RK3 cassette 3 speed hubs. A hub that allows you to lose the front derailleur all together. Now you can run a multi speed cassette on a 3 speed internally geared hub. You can use any Shimano compatible shifters with this setup.

Sturmey-Archer Heritage site has been updated!

When the history site was started, it was intended merely to record vintage hub product types and there were only about 300 images. But as more and more information surfaced, the size increased to 1500 images ( and two films!) which made easy navigation impossible.

The re-launched site incorporates :

- A filter to show most recent additions, so repeat visitors need only look there.

- A filter to separate bike hub technical information .

- A filter to separate non-bike products ( mainly motorcycle components ).

- A filter to separate advertisements .

- A filter for the rest ( sales literature ,factory pictures, bike shows. etc.).

- Categories split by date period.

- Recent additions are marked “new” in the dateline ,for 100 days .

- Multi-page entries ,now have preview images( miniatures) alongside.

A slide-show has also been added to the re-designed home page.

The S3X has now been in production for about a month and the hubs are slowly making their way into the US.

Currently there are two bicycles that come with the S3X as original equipment that are available now. One is the Felt Gridloc and the other is the Mercier Kilo S3X.

For aftermarket S3X sales look towards early January. Shipping times have slipped due to the holidays.

Sunrace Sturmey Archer is really looking forward to this years Interbike. We will be displaying inside the Sands Convention center after a two year hiatus. We had been attending the Dirt Demo for the last two years after many requests to ride our product and get a feel for what we are all about.

This year is going to be a very special one. We have enlisted the help of Curtis Inglis to help create four unique bikes to display our componentry on. He went out of his way and made four beautiful bikes. Each bike is different and built around each component group.
If you get a chance to make it to Interbike, stop by the booth, 569.

Thanks to our European office there has been another bevy of updates to the Sturmey Archer Heritage site. Head over there and check it out if you have an interest in the History behind the company.

This one is amazing. According to our European office, during WWII the blackout was when all the street lights were switched off so not to help German bombers flying overhead. Sturmey Dyno hubs were the answer!

Our European office has been hard at work updating the Sturmey-Archer heritage website with tons of old posters and information on the history of our company. If you are interested in old catalogs, posters, exploded view diagrams, or a time line of Sturmey-Archer, you should definitely take a look at the site. They have put a lot of work into the site and it shows. All of the new updates can be easily sorted through as the date will appear darkened. So if you have been to the site in the past it is very easy to get to the new goodies.

Thank you everyone for your comments. The response to the new S3X has been overwhelming and we are really looking forward to finishing up and getting this hub into your hands.

The name will not be changing. I appreciate everyone's thoughts on naming it after Sheldon, it just is not possible.

Some of the most asked questions should be answered with the below pictures. Hub will be 120mm OLD. Two shifters, top mount thumb and bar end. Cog interface is a standard Shimano spline.

Please also take some time to answer a few polls on the right hand side of the blog concerning the need to add a 130mm OLD or the possibility of a high flange hubshell.

So I know there are many of you out there that are very interested in the little bit of info I recently got my paws on.

The first batch of prototype Fixed Gear 3 speeds is finished. The new hub will be called the S3X. The hub will be made using a much stronger aluminum hubshell. Overall gear range will be 160%.

1st Gear -37.5%

2nd Gear - -25%

3rd Gear - Direct Drive

Gear step gear 1 to gear 2: 20%

Gear step gear two to gear 3: 33%

Shifters are still up in the air but we have had many requests for a bar end style shifter. Also we are still planning on the possibility of doing some anodized colors with laser etching instead of screen printed graphics. Please comment on what you would like to see in the way of shifters or color choices.

2008 Taipei International Bike Show

Just wanted to post a few pictures from this years International Bike Show in Taipei. This year the show is in an all new convention center quite a ways away from the previous venue. We also have an all new booth that was modeled after our European office's booth.
A few new products that we are debuting at the show are the all new 8 speed hub as well as bringing the 5 speed coaster back into production. Both models offer a wider gear ratio with many internal changes.

Well it has only been I believe four years since the last update, but the new site is live.

I am still searching for bugs, misspelled words, and the like. But you can search through the entire Sunrace product line and download the most current catalogs now.

Today I received many e-mails with horrible news. A man that was loved and cherished by our bicycle brethren. A man I looked forward to seeing in person each year at Interbike. A man that loved to talk about the history and evolution of the bicycle industry. A man that has truly helped me over the years in many, many, ways. A man who could honestly answer almost any question you could throw at him and not make you feel like an idiot. Sheldon you will be sorely missed.

Sunrace debuts Driven Components at Interbike Outdoor Demo 2007

I am finally back from this Years Interbike Outdoor demo. What an event. This was the first year that Sunrace Sturmey-Archer has attended and we had a great time. It was the perfect venue to debut the new Driven range of components.

Not one mechanical issue over the span of the event and that says allot seeing that the Driven NMX rear derailleurs were all hand made prototypes. I must thank Jeff Yang one of our engineers for working so hard to make sure the derailleurs made it to the show. They looked great as well.

Sunrace is proud to announce our new product range, Driven.

Driven will offer high end competition level product for both Mountain and Road. It will be available in two trim levels, Z level and X level. Z will be the top of the line sporting exotic materials and X will be the gateway into Driven.

Pricing, weights, and availability will be published after the upcoming Interbike Convention.

Welcome to the Sunrace Sturmey Archer news blog. We are in the process of updating our current websites and wanted to keep everyone informed of what is going on with the company. Some of our sponsored riders will also be updating the blog with race results and pictures from their current races.
